Course Outline Fall 2012

Course Overview This Option is designed around the Grade 9 Physical Education Course with the focus on having fun and being active. During this course you will have the opportunity to participate in activities not normally offered in your usual Grade 9 Physical Education Class.
These activities will include:
- BBQ games - Cooperative Games - Minute-to-Win-it Games
- Cultural Games - Traditional Sports - Personal Fitness
- Student Choice - Dodgeball - Ice/Winter Sports

Ø Basic skills/application 10%
Ø Attitude/effort/participation 40%
Ø Teamwork/communication 30%
Ø Safety /lates/changing 10%
Ø Leadership/ fair play 10%
Course Policies
Participation:
- This is ACTIVE LIVING; as such the goal is to be ACTIVE!!!
- Every student is expected to participate fully in each class. In order to participate you must come to class in appropriate gym clothing (T-shirt, shorts/sweatpants and clean running shoes).
- If you are sick you will only be excused if you have a note from your parents or guardian.
- Participation in class also requires an attitude that demonstrates good sportsmanship, fair play and cooperation. When you display a negative attitude a loss of participation marks will occur.
Attendance:
- Attendance is mandatory and truancy will be dealt with according to school policy (refer to your student manual).
Late Policy:
- Be changed and ready to begin class five minutes after the bell.
- You will be dismissed by the teacher to change at the end of class with approximately 5 minutes left before the bell rings. You must remain in the gym until the bell rings.
Student Rules and Responsibilities:
· When in class respect the rights of all others!!
· If you have to use the bathroom please let the teacher know
· No food or drink in the gym
· No cell phones, I-pods, mp3 players or other electronic devices
· Students are responsible for their safety and the safety of their classmates. Therefore, horseplay in not acceptable and will be dealt with by removal from that class.
**Please lock up your belongings – locker rentals are available for $10 per year**
